Korea “Land of Morning Calm.”
Korea is a peninsula situated in Northern Pacific, between Russia, China and Japan, 6000 miles from the United State.
Brief History.
3000 B.C. Early Korean civilization is settlers from central Asia.
700 B.C. Immigrants from eastern China bring new rice-growing techniques.
200 A.D. Korea's emerging states develop laws and a new writing system that
uses Chinese characters.
668: The Silla Dynasty brings together three existing kingdoms and the arts
flourish.
1392: The Yi Dynasty begins and the country is renamed Chousen. The Yi Dynasty
lasts more than 500 years.
1895: Japan defeats China in the Sino-Japanese War, ending China's influence
over Korea.
1905: The Russo-Japanese War ends, and Japan gains control of Korea from
Russia.
1945: Republic of Korea. After Japan's surrender at the end of World War II,
Korea is divided into north and south zones at the 38th parallel.
1948: Syngman Rhee or Yi Seungman ( March 26,1875-July 19 -1965) was the first President of South Korea, Kim II sung (15 April 1912-8 July 1994) was a Korean Communist prime minister of the Democratic People's of Korea, he led North Korea from 1948 until his death.
1950-1953: Korean War. Also called the forgotten war, edged between WWII
& Vietnam.
The Korean War began when in June of 25, 1950 retreats of the US military
troops from the South open the door for North Korean's plans of reunification.
After several attempt for trust in April 26 1953 - Full peace talks resume at
Panmunjom. July 27, 1953 Cease fire signed - fighting ends 12 hours later.
1988: Seoul hosts the Summer Olympics.
1998: President Kim Dae Jung begins the Sunshine Policy to encourage open
relations with North Korea. End of Part 1.
